About Me

I am a Departmental Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at the Department of Education, University of Oxford and the incoming Course Director of the MSc Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching (ALLT). I teach and supervise on the MSc ALLT, as well as on the MSc Applied Linguistics & Second Language Acquisition (ALSLA) and on the Postgraduate Diploma in English as an Additional Language (PGDip EAL). I also convene CreATE, an informal research group exploring the use of creative approaches for language learning and teaching.

If you want to find out more about my research projects, see my publications and presentations, or check out my media appearances and outreach events, feel free to scroll through the pages of this website. Do not hesitate to get in touch if you have comments about my work or ideas for collaboration! You can contact me via email, as well as through LinkedIn and BlueSky. You can also visit my academic profile on the department's website, but please note that it does not get updated as often as this website.

Academic Bio

I have a BA in Linguistics from UCL, as well as an MSc in Applied Linguistics & Second Language Acquisition and a DPhil in Education from the University of Oxford.  Furthermore, I obtained a CELTA from UCL’s Centre for Languages and International Education in 2013 and possess substantial experience of teaching English to adults and children in diverse educational settings - ranging from preschools to universities. I am also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Research Interests

My research explores the linguistic and experiential factors that underpin (pre)school-aged children's acquisition of English as an additional or foreign language, with a particular focus on how children's knowledge of a first language affects their development in the second language. I am also interested in how children's second language knowledge is measured and can be improved. At present, I focus on designing and implementing a drama-based intervention for developing young children's oral language and soft skills.

Other Interests

I am a trained stage actress, and can often be found performing in English and/or Greek with Theatre Lab Company and Praxis Oxford Theatre Group. Besides acting, I like reading, baking and going for long walks in the woods with my deer-chasing dog!
